The wines

Fruit from the mountain

Long before Chile’s modern system of Denominations of Origin created the Maipo D.O. as one of many horizontal valley divisions, Cabernet was adapting to the diversity of climate and soils of Chilean viticulture. Rarely however did it find the affinity that it encountered in the Maipo. It was here on these ancient Maipo river terraces that the first generation of elegant big shouldered Cabernet with firm but friendly tannins made the world take notice of Chile.

Over the past fifteen years Chilean terroir hunters have sought vineyard sites travelling 1ooo+ kms north and south as well as pushing closer to the coast with plantings of whites, Pinot & Syrah. What most do not realise is that the Pino family and their partner William Fevre, pioneers in terroir hunting have quietly stayed their course having planted in the mountains at almost 1ooo metres in San Juan almost twenty years ago. Initially, everyone thought the two old men were nuts, but more lately the wines made with mountain fruit on those same Maipo riverbanks [but higher and fresher] have been conquering souls and critics the world over.

Mountain Fruit

And How are WFC wines made?

Our wines are mades naturally,
as if guiding the fruit through
to wine respecting the conditions of each parcel, each vintage,
and each particular lot. In short, the wines are defined on the vine by the vintage year.
